Choosing a bathroom sink and the faucet that fits it

The sink and faucet in a bathroom have to be chosen together. The sink type decides how high the faucet must be, and where it mounts.

Undermount

Mounted under a stone or quartz vanity top. It's clean-lined and easy to wipe. Pair it with a widespread, single-hole or wall-mounted faucet.

Vessel

A bowl that sits on top of the counter. It needs a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted faucet, so water lands in the bowl. Many vessels have no overflow, so they need a grid drain.

Console and pedestal

These suit smaller or period bathrooms. The faucet often mounts on the sink deck itself. Check whether the sink is drilled for one hole or three.

Faucet spacing

Spout reach and height

The water should fall near the center of the drain. With vessel sinks, the spout tip should clear the rim. Check reach on wall-mounted faucets carefully.

Water efficiency

EPA WaterSense-labeled bathroom faucets use no more than 1.5 gallons per minute. Some states, including California, set lower limits. We list the flow rate for every faucet.
